The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday released a revised schedule for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Uttar Pradesh, with January 1, 2026 set as the qualification date.
According to the revised timeline, the draft electoral roll for Uttar Pradesh will now be published on January 6, 2026. The period for filing claims and objections will remain open from January 6 to February 6, 2026.
The Chief Electoral Officer, Uttar Pradesh said that verification, disposal of claims and objections, and related proceedings will be conducted between January 6 and February 27, 2026. The final electoral roll for the state will be published on March 6, 2026.
The SIR exercise is being carried out in two phases across the country. The second phase covers Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal, following the completion of the first phase in Bihar.
In Tamil Nadu, the ECI released the draft electoral roll on December 19 after collecting over 5.43 crore voter enumeration forms. The final roll for the state is scheduled for publication on February 2, 2026. As part of the exercise, over 97.37 lakh electors were removed due to reasons such as death, change of residence, or multiple enrolments.
In Chhattisgarh, more than 27 lakh voters have been deleted during the ongoing SIR process. The claims and objections window in the state is open from December 23 to January 22, 2026, with hearings and verification scheduled till February 14. The final electoral roll will be published on February 21, 2026.
Kerala saw the deletion of over 24.08 lakh electors following the publication of the draft roll after the SIR exercise. The final electoral roll for the state is also scheduled for release on February 21.
In Madhya Pradesh, the ECI released the first draft voter list after completion of the enumeration phase. Over 42.74 lakh voter names were deleted from the rolls. Electors can file claims or objections till January 22, 2026, with final publication slated for February 21.
In West Bengal, the draft electoral rolls were published on December 16. Over 58.20 lakh electors, around 7.59 per cent of the total electorate, were deleted due to death, permanent migration, or being untraceable. The claims and objections period in the state will remain open till January 15, 2026.
