India Post on Monday unveiled Kerala’s first Gen-Z Post Office extension counter at CMS College, Kottayam, introducing a youth-centric approach to postal services. The facility was inaugurated by N.R. Giri, Director Postal Services (Kerala Central Region).
Designed around the theme “of the students, by the students, for the students,” the new centre has been conceptualised and co-created by CMS College students in collaboration with India Post. The result is a modern, vibrant space that blends creativity, sustainability and functionality, offering a fresh take on how young users engage with traditional postal services.
The extension counter features nature-inspired interiors, including a vertical garden and picnic-style seating, along with additional seating made from refurbished tyres to promote eco-friendly practices. A work-friendly counter ledge equipped with charging points allows students to use laptops and mobile devices while accessing postal services.
A dedicated recreational area includes a bookshelf, board games and an indoor reading nook, creating a relaxed environment within the facility. The centre also houses a fully equipped MPCM booking counter with packaging materials and a MyStamp printer, making essential services easily accessible on campus.
Artworks created by students and staff adorn the interiors, celebrating India Post, Kerala’s cultural heritage, Kottayam’s identity as the “Land of Letters,” and the college’s longstanding ethos of harmony with nature.
The Ministry of Communications said that the new Gen-Z-themed counter is designed to function as more than just a service point. It aims to be a workplace, meeting spot, creative hub and community space – offering a model for the future of postal engagement among young Indians.
