India will host the India–AI Impact Summit 2026 from 16 to 20 February in New Delhi, marking the first time the global AI summit series will be held in the Global South. The event underscores India’s strengthening role in international discussions on Artificial Intelligence and its commitment to shaping a collaborative global framework for responsible AI development.
According to information shared in the Lok Sabha by Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Jitin Prasada, India’s approach to AI governance is guided by an inclusive and innovation-friendly framework. The Government has studied global legal models and held extensive consultations with stakeholders to build a strategy that promotes both technological advancement and safeguards for users.
The Minister said India’s AI strategy is rooted in a balanced techno-legal approach aimed at ensuring responsible deployment of AI across sectors. The broader focus aligns with the Government’s vision of democratising technology and using AI to address real-world challenges in areas such as healthcare, agriculture, education and public services.
The Summit’s thematic priorities, described as the seven ‘Chakras’, will guide discussions. These include Human Capital, Inclusion, Safe and Trusted AI, Resilience, Innovation and Efficiency, Democratizing AI Resources, and AI for Economic Development and Social Good. The themes cover areas such as safety standards, data governance, transparency and human-centred development.
The India–AI Impact Summit 2026 aims to produce actionable recommendations that support international dialogue on ethical and responsible AI without framing immediate binding regulations.
