India to remain ‘First Responder’ in line with Vision MAHASAGAR, says PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with the President of Sri Lanka, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, on Monday to review the situation in the country following the widespread devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah.

During the conversation, the Prime Minister expressed condolences on the loss of lives and extensive damage across several regions of Sri Lanka. He said the people of India stand firmly with Sri Lanka in this hour of distress.

President Dissanayake conveyed his deep gratitude for India’s timely and effective humanitarian assistance, including the deployment of rescue teams and delivery of relief supplies. He noted that the people of Sri Lanka value India’s swift support as the country responds to the disaster.

Prime Minister Modi assured India’s continued cooperation under Operation Sagar Bandhu, which is currently facilitating rescue, evacuation and relief operations in affected areas. He added that India will extend full assistance in the coming days as Sri Lanka undertakes rehabilitation, restores public services and works to rebuild livelihoods.

The Prime Minister said India will remain committed as the “First Responder” in the region and will support Sri Lanka in line with Vision MAHASAGAR.

Both leaders agreed to stay in close touch as relief and recovery efforts continue.
