Indian Railways has recorded an 11.7 per cent increase in fertiliser loading in the current financial year so far, reinforcing its role in ensuring timely and uninterrupted supply of essential agricultural inputs to farmers across the country.
According to Ministry of Railways, Railways loaded 17,168 fertiliser rakes till November 30 this year, compared to 15,369 rakes during the corresponding period last year. The rise reflects improved efficiency and prioritisation of critical freight movement on the railway network.
Fertiliser availability is crucial for agricultural operations, particularly during sowing and harvesting seasons. Keeping this in view, Indian Railways has accorded priority to fertiliser and foodgrain trains to ensure smooth movement to various states without disruption.
Ministry said the enhanced movement of fertilisers is supporting rural livelihoods, strengthening food security and contributing to overall economic stability. By ensuring reliable and large-scale transportation, Railways is helping farmers carry out agricultural activities on time, leading to better crop productivity and more stable farm incomes.
Rail transport of fertilisers also offers environmental and logistical benefits, including reduced carbon emissions, lower highway congestion and a greener, more dependable freight solution. Indian Railways said it remains committed to strengthening essential freight services as part of its broader role in nation-building and supporting India’s agricultural supply chain.
