Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday for a three-day official visit aimed at advancing the India-Italy Strategic Partnership. This is his second visit to India this year.
In a post on X, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “Warm welcome to Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani on his arrival in New Delhi. This is his second visit to India this year. His engagements in Delhi and Mumbai will further strengthen India-Italy Strategic Partnership.”
Tajani will meet External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in New Delhi on Wednesday. He will then travel to Mumbai for official engagements on Thursday and depart on Friday, according to the MEA.
The visit follows regular high-level interactions between the two countries. On November 23, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Italian PM Giorgia Meloni on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, where both leaders discussed expanding collaboration in trade, investment, defence, innovation, AI, space and education. They also announced a joint initiative to cooperate against terror financing.
During his April 2025 visit to India, Tajani reviewed bilateral cooperation with Jaishankar under the Joint Strategic Action Plan (JSAP) 2025-29. The plan includes cooperation in trade and investment, defence and security, space, science and technology, clean energy, culture, tourism and people-to-people exchanges. Both sides also noted growing opportunities in AI, cyber, telecom, digital technologies, renewable energy, scientific research and youth mobility.
Tajani and Jaishankar last met in September on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly, where they discussed regional developments and reviewed bilateral progress.
India and Italy, which established diplomatic ties in 1947, continue to deepen their partnership through increasing economic engagement and regular diplomatic exchanges.
