The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) will convene a pre-release consultative workshop on the base revision of key macroeconomic indicators – Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Index of Industrial Production (IIP) – today at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
The workshop is part of the government’s efforts to ensure transparency and stakeholder consultation ahead of the release of revised statistical series. It will be the second such pre-release consultation, following the first workshop held in Mumbai on November 26.
According to MoSPI, the primary objective of the workshop is to share proposed methodological and structural changes being introduced as part of the ongoing base revision exercise and to seek feedback from a broad range of users and experts.
The event will bring together eminent economists, subject-matter experts, representatives from financial institutions and banks, senior officials from the Central and State governments, and users of official statistics. MoSPI said participation from diverse stakeholders is expected to enrich discussions and help familiarise users with the changes in the revised series.
The inaugural session will be attended by Suman K. Bery, Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog, as the chief guest. Other dignitaries expected at the session include Chief Economic Adviser V. Anantha Nageswaran, MoSPI Secretary Saurabh Garg, and N. K. Santoshi, Director General (Central Statistics), MoSPI.
Following the inaugural session, technical presentations and open-house discussions will be held on GDP, CPI and IIP. A booklet outlining concept notes on the proposed changes in the revised base series will also be shared with participants.
MoSPI has announced timelines for the release of the revised data series. The new CPI series with base year 2024=100 is scheduled to be released on February 12, 2026. The revised national accounts series with FY 2022–23 as the base year will be released on February 27, 2026, while the new IIP series with base year 2022–23 is scheduled for release on May 28, 2026.
The ministry said the consultative process is aimed at strengthening transparency, fostering informed dialogue and ensuring broad-based stakeholder engagement before the official release of the revised macroeconomic indicators.
