NITI Aayog’s Frontier Tech Hub on Thursday released a roadmap to position India as a leading quantum-powered economy, outlining strategies to accelerate R&D, develop talent, scale commercialization, and strengthen secure quantum infrastructure.
The roadmap was launched in the presence of Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Telangana IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu, NITI Aayog Member Dr. V.K. Saraswat, CEO B.V.R. Subrahmanyam, Distinguished Fellow Debjani Ghosh and other stakeholders.
The document highlights the growing global significance of quantum technologies across healthcare, finance, logistics, energy, national security, and advanced computing, noting their role as a foundation for future AI, biotechnology and secure communication systems.
Sridhar Babu said quantum computing is entering a phase where it can solve previously impossible challenges, adding that Telangana is building strong research and talent capabilities. Dr. Saraswat underlined that quantum will be key for India’s 2047 development goals, while Subrahmanyam stressed that the next five years will determine whether India becomes a global supplier of quantum technologies.
Debjani Ghosh said intensifying global competition requires India to expand research infrastructure and build strategic partnerships to emerge as a trusted quantum partner for the Global South.
Developed with IBM and guided by an expert council, the roadmap is part of NITI Aayog’s long-term push to build a resilient, advanced, and globally competitive quantum ecosystem.
