Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, participated in the 4th meeting of the High-Level Task Force on Tourism held in New Delhi today.
Building on previous discussions, the meeting focused on creating an integrated, action-oriented tourism roadmap for North East India. Key deliberations included improving multimodal connectivity, enhancing world-class tourism infrastructure, developing globally marketable destinations, and expanding adventure, eco-tourism, and cultural tourism offerings. The session also highlighted the need to strengthen skilling ecosystems, standardize service delivery, and deepen capacity-building to generate local employment and ensure sustainable growth.
Minister Scindia emphasised that the North East, as a cultural and natural powerhouse, has the potential to become one of India’s most prominent tourism destinations. He called for a focus on last-mile connectivity, integrated planning, and sustainability-driven development to unlock long-term benefits for local communities and the economy. He also suggested developing an annual calendar of major festivals in the region to enhance cultural awareness and attract more visitors.
The meeting further highlighted the importance of unified branding for North East India as a premium tourism region, supported by a streamlined policy environment to attract private investment. Strengthened inter-state coordination was identified as essential for creating seamless tourism circuits and curated visitor experiences across the region.
Earlier this year, the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) had constituted eight High-Level Task Forces, each headed by a Chief Minister, with participation from Union Ministers and other state leaders. The fourth HLTF meeting on tourism received constructive engagement, and Minister Scindia requested the Government of Meghalaya to submit the final report after incorporating feedback from all members.
