‘People should not be troubled’: PM Modi to NDA MPs on IndiGo flight cancellation chaos

Union Parliamentary and Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s concern over the chaos triggered by the mass cancellation of IndiGo Airlines flights. Rijiju said the Prime Minister stressed that passengers must not face inconvenience under any circumstances.

“During the NDA parliamentary meeting, the Prime Minister told MPs that people should not be troubled or inconvenienced. Rules and laws are important, but in the process of correcting the system, it is not right to harass people,” Rijiju said.

Ahead of the debate on election reforms in the Lok Sabha, the Minister said the government would have the opportunity to counter the “false narrative” being spread by the opposition.

“Today, the Lok Sabha will discuss election reforms. The opposition will present its views, and the government will also clarify the misconceptions being created. We will address the wrong narrative regarding people’s trust and their participation in the electoral process,” he said.

Sharing details of the NDA Parliamentary Party meeting, Rijiju said the Prime Minister guided MPs to focus on reforms aimed at improving people’s lives.

“All NDA leaders congratulated PM Modi on the alliance’s victory in the Bihar elections. The Prime Minister instructed MPs to work for the development of their constituencies. He emphasised undertaking reforms across all sectors to make public life easier and ensure people face no difficulties. He said laws should support citizens, not burden them. The PM also urged MPs to engage more with the youth. I express my gratitude to him for his guidance. It was a very productive meeting,” he said.

Rijiju also dismissed opposition allegations that the parliamentary discussion on Vande Mataram was linked to the upcoming West Bengal elections.

“Some opposition members claim that the discussion on Vande Mataram was scheduled because of the Bengal polls. This is incorrect. Vande Mataram completed 150 years on November 7. How can we determine that date? Since this historic milestone occurred now, the discussion is being held now. We do not set the dates for such events; we commemorate them,” he said.
