PM Modi expresses grief over Yamuna Expressway accident in Mathura, announces ex-gratia from PMNRF

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday expressed deep grief over the loss of lives in a tragic multi-vehicle accident on the Yamuna Expressway in Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of each deceased, while the injured will receive ₹50,000.

In a post on X, PM Modi said, “The loss of lives due to a mishap on the Yamuna Expressway in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, is extremely painful. My thoughts are with those who have lost their loved ones. I pray for the speedy recovery of those injured.”

The accident occurred on Tuesday morning near Milestone 127 under the Baldev police station area on the Yamuna Expressway. A massive multi-vehicle pile-up involving several buses and cars led to a fire that engulfed multiple vehicles. Fire tenders were deployed to control the blaze, and traffic movement on the expressway was restored after rescue and clearance operations.

Mathura District Magistrate Chandra Prakash Singh said, “A total of 70 people were injured in this incident and have been admitted to different hospitals. Two of the injured have been referred to Agra Medical College for advanced treatment. The entire medical team has completed the examination. Here at the mortuary, we received information about the deaths of 13 people.”

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also expressed condolences over the incident and announced financial assistance of ₹2 lakh to the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 to the injured from the state government.
