Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Amman on Monday, marking the beginning of his three-nation tour of Jordan, Ethiopia and Oman. In a special gesture reflecting the close ties between the two countries, he was warmly received at the airport by Jordan’s Prime Minister Jafar Hassan, and accorded a ceremonial welcome.
The full-fledged bilateral visit to Jordan by an Indian Prime Minister comes after a gap of 37 years, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Jordan. The visit underscores the growing importance of India–Jordan relations and reflects their shared commitment to regional stability and cooperation.
In a post on X, PM Modi said, “Landed in Amman. Thankful to Mr. Jafar Hassan, Prime Minister of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan for the warm welcome at the airport. I am sure this visit will boost bilateral linkages between our nations.”
During his stay in Amman, PM Modi will hold talks with King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein, Prime Minister Jafar Hassan and Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II. He is also scheduled to interact with members of the Indian community in Jordan, acknowledging their role in strengthening bilateral ties.
The visit is expected to provide fresh momentum to bilateral engagement, open new avenues of cooperation for mutual growth and prosperity, and reaffirm the two countries’ shared commitment to peace, security and stability in the region.
