President Droupadi Murmu addressed the Antarrajyiy Jansanskritik Samagam Samaroh – Kartik Jatra in Gumla, Jharkhand, highlighting the rich legacy of tribal leaders and the need to preserve indigenous heritage while embracing modern development.
Speaking at the event, the President said that visiting Jharkhand, the birthplace and workplace of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, felt like a pilgrimage to her. She described Birsa Munda as a powerful symbol of social justice and tribal pride, revered across the country.
President Murmu also paid tribute to Pankhraj Saheb Kartik Oraon, noting that he strengthened tribal consciousness and identity by following the ideals of Bhagwan Birsa Munda. She said Kartik Oraon dedicated his life to the upliftment of tribal communities and the nation, working tirelessly to promote education and social unity.
Calling on people to draw inspiration from such leaders, the President urged citizens to commit themselves to the overall development of society and the country by following their ideals.
The President noted that the region has produced many prominent tribal heroes and said the government is making efforts to familiarise people across India with their contributions through initiatives such as the establishment of tribal museums. However, she stressed that it is also the responsibility of individuals and institutions connected with tribal heritage to ensure that the stories and sacrifices of tribal heroes from all regions are passed on to the youth and future generations.
Emphasising the importance of cultural continuity, President Murmu said it is essential to connect young people with the traditions of tribal communities. At the same time, she underlined the need for tribal youth to move forward on the path of modern development while preserving their cultural identity.
Expressing confidence in the resilience of tribal communities, the President said they would continue to progress while safeguarding their rich heritage and traditions.
