President Murmu attends civic reception in Imphal; launches multiple development projects

President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday attended a civic reception hosted in her honour by the Government of Manipur at the City Convention Centre in Imphal this evening, where she also laid the foundation stones and inaugurated several developmental projects.

Speaking at the event, the President said Manipur is a land known for resilience, courage and exceptional cultural heritage. She noted that generations of Manipuris have made significant contributions to the country in fields such as sports, the armed forces, arts, culture and public service.

The President said she is aware of the pain people have endured in the aftermath of the recent violence in the state. She assured the gathering that addressing the concerns of the people of Manipur remains a top priority for the Union Government. She reiterated the Centre’s commitment to strengthening harmony, ensuring security and supporting the state in its journey towards stability and prosperity. She added that the government aims to promote equitable development and ensure that the benefits of growth reach all parts of the state.

Highlighting the state’s role in India’s outreach to Southeast Asia, the President said Manipur’s youth, culture and natural beauty give it immense potential. She also noted that Manipur is recognised for its empowered women, recalling the historic Nupee Lal movements—women’s wars—in the early 20th century, when Manipuri women compelled colonial and feudal authorities to accept their demands.

The President expressed confidence that the people from both the valley and hill regions will continue to work together with renewed harmony and lead the state towards prosperity. She urged citizens to support ongoing initiatives aimed at peace and development and said collective efforts can strengthen Manipur as a state where every child feels safe, every woman feels empowered, every community feels included and every citizen moves forward towards a brighter future.

Earlier in the day, President Murmu witnessed a polo exhibition match at the historic Mapal Kangjeibung.
