President Murmu inaugurates 1066th Jayanthi celebrations of Adi Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Shivayogi Mahaswamiji

President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday inaugurated the 1066th Jayanthi celebrations of Adi Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Shivayogi Mahaswamiji at Malavalli in Karnataka’s Mandya district, highlighting the continuing relevance of spiritual guidance in contemporary society.

Addressing the gathering, the President said that saints across the ages have guided humanity through wisdom and compassion, reminding people that true greatness lies in sacrifice, service and spiritual strength. She described Adi Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Shivayogi Mahaswamiji as a beacon of inspiration whose life and teachings continue to influence society even after more than a thousand years.

The President referred to the establishment of the Jagadguru Sri Veerasimhasana Mahasansthana Math at Suttur in the tenth century, noting that it evolved from a spiritual centre into an institution of social transformation. She said the unbroken guru lineage of Suttur Math has preserved and strengthened spiritual values across generations, while contributing significantly to religion, education, healthcare and culture.

President Murmu praised the role of the JSS Mahavidyapeetha, functioning under the guidance of Suttur Math, in advancing education and social development. She noted that through its institutions in India and abroad, it has contributed to shaping young minds, delivering healthcare services, empowering women, uplifting rural communities and preserving cultural heritage.

Emphasising the importance of values in national development, the President said that in an age of rapid change and uncertainty, spiritual guidance is essential for promoting social harmony, ethical leadership, youth empowerment and inner resilience. As India moves towards the goal of Viksit Bharat by 2047, she said, development must balance technology with values, innovation with environmental responsibility, economic growth with social inclusion, and progress with compassion.

She underlined the role of spiritual and social institutions such as Suttur Math in supporting this holistic vision and said that India’s youth would play a decisive role in shaping the country’s future. The President urged such institutions to continue inspiring young people, nurturing responsible citizens and strengthening their sense of purpose and integrity.

The President concluded by saying that the Jayanthi celebrations reaffirm the collective commitment to a life guided by dharma, compassion, service and unity, and expressed hope that the legacy of Adi Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Shivayogi Mahaswamiji would continue to inspire efforts towards peace, prosperity and spiritual strength.
