Cold Wave | fog | schools | Noida | Gautam Buddha Nagar

Schools in Gautam Buddha Nagar shut for four days amid cold wave and dense fog

The Gautam Buddha Nagar district administration has ordered a four-day closure of all schools in the district due to dense fog and plunging temperatures.

According to a directive issued late Sunday night by the office of the District Basic Education Officer (DBEO), on the instructions of the District Magistrate, all recognised schools – affiliated to CBSE, ICSE, IB, UP Board or any other board – will remain closed from December 29, 2025, to January 1, 2026.

The order applies to all classes from nursery to Class 12 and has been issued keeping in view severe cold and dense fog.

However, the directive clarifies that teachers, administrative staff and other non-teaching personnel of government, aided and unaided schools are required to report to duty and carry out administrative work as usual during the closure period.

The district administration has instructed all institutions to strictly comply with the order.

The late-night issuance of the directive led to confusion on Monday morning, with several private schools reportedly not receiving timely intimation. As a result, some schools opened briefly, and students and staff were informed of the closure only after reaching the campus.

Several parents expressed concern over the delay, stating that an earlier announcement could have prevented children from travelling in harsh cold and foggy conditions.

Over the past few days, temperatures across Gautam Buddha Nagar and the wider NCR region have continued to drop, with dense morning fog significantly reducing visibility.
