Tata Motors crosses 2.5 lakh electric vehicle milestone in India

Tata Motors has crossed a major milestone in India’s electric mobility journey, with over 2.5 lakh TATA.ev cars now running on Indian roads, the company announced on Tuesday.

The achievement reinforces Tata Motors’ leadership in the country’s rapidly expanding electric passenger vehicle segment, at a time when EVs are increasingly being adopted by mainstream consumers beyond early adopters.

Since the launch of its first mass-market electric car, the Nexon.ev, in 2020, Tata Motors has steadily expanded its electric vehicle footprint. The Nexon.ev also created history by becoming the first electric car in India to cross one lakh cumulative sales.

Currently, Tata Motors commands around 66 per cent of India’s electric passenger vehicle market, meaning nearly two out of every three EVs on Indian roads belong to the Tata portfolio.

The company’s EV lineup spans multiple segments and price points, including the Tiago.ev, Punch.ev, Nexon.ev, Curvv.ev and Harrier.ev. Tata Motors also offers the XPRES-T EV for fleet operators, extending electric mobility to commercial users.

Commenting on the milestone, Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director and CEO of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited, said the 2.5 lakh EV mark reflects growing consumer confidence in electric mobility.

He noted that customers are increasingly using EVs as their primary vehicles, signalling a shift in everyday travel habits. Chandra added that Tata’s EV journey has focused not only on vehicle sales but also on building a complete ecosystem to support India’s transition to clean mobility, in collaboration with government policies, suppliers, charging partners and customers.

Charging infrastructure remains a key pillar of Tata Motors’ EV strategy. TATA.ev currently has access to more than two lakh charging points nationwide through a mix of home, community and public charging solutions. The company’s charging aggregator covers over 20,000 public charging points, while 100 MegaCharging Hubs with fast-charging facilities are operational along major highways and urban corridors.
