Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan on Thursday participated as the chief guest at the Good Governance Day celebrations held at Siri Fort Auditorium in Delhi, marking the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Addressing the gathering, the Vice President described Vajpayee as a visionary leader, accomplished poet and a committed servant of the people, whose governance was anchored in democratic values, constitutional morality and national consensus. He said Vajpayee’s unmatched oratory, humility and commitment to democracy helped guide the country through complex domestic and foreign policy challenges.
Radhakrishnan emphasised that good governance was central to Vajpayee’s political philosophy and formed the foundation of a strong and prosperous India. He noted that Vajpayee’s approach to governance was rooted in transparency, accountability, inclusivity and service to all sections of society.
Highlighting major initiatives undertaken during Vajpayee’s tenure, the Vice President said they reflected his deep faith in democratic institutions and his ability to build consensus across political lines for national progress.
Stressing that good governance is a shared responsibility, Radhakrishnan said governments, administrators, institutions, civil society and citizens all have a role in ensuring ethical, transparent and accountable governance. He urged participants to uphold these principles while working towards a developed, inclusive and resilient India in line with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
The programme also featured a theatre presentation on Satyavadi Raja Harishchandra, symbolically drawing parallels between Vajpayee’s life and the legendary king’s values of truthfulness, integrity and selfless service.
The event was organised by the Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti in association with the Heritage India Foundation. Union Minister of State for Corporate Affairs and Road Transport and Highways Harsh Malhotra, Delhi Legislative Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta, Vice Chairman of Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti Vijay Goel, and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
