The Ministry of Women and Child Development will formally launch a 100-day intensive awareness campaign for a Child Marriage Free Bharat on Thursday, marking one year of the Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat initiative. The event will take place at Vigyan Bhawan in the presence of Union Women and Child Development Minister Annpurna Devi and Minister of State Savitri Thakur.
The Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat campaign was launched by the Ministry on 27 November 2024, and completed one year on 27 November 2025.
The intensive awareness campaign, which runs from November 27, 2025 to March 8, 2026, aims to mobilise citizens, institutions and community leaders to strengthen the nationwide movement against child marriage. The launch programme will include a National Pledge to End Child Marriage, the screening of a special film showcasing stories of change from across the country, and testimonies from frontline workers. The event will be streamed live on the government’s webcast platform.
The 100-day drive has been structured into three phases. The first spell focuses on awareness activities in schools, colleges and universities through debates, essays, interactive sessions and pledge-taking events. The second phase will bring together faith leaders, community influencers and marriage service providers to amplify messages around child rights and protection. In the third spell, Gram Panchayats and municipal wards will be encouraged to pass resolutions declaring their jurisdictions free from child marriage.
The Ministry said the campaign will be implemented in close coordination with the Ministries of Health and Family Welfare, Panchayati Raj, Rural Development and Education to ensure stronger convergence and wider grassroots reach. It called on people across the country to support the mission and reaffirm the national commitment to eliminating child marriage.
