Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Thursday chaired a high-level security review meeting on Jammu and Kashmir in the national capital, focusing on the security situation and counter-terrorism measures in the Union Territory.
The meeting was attended by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, the Union Home Secretary, Director of the Intelligence Bureau, the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police of Jammu and Kashmir, heads of Central Armed Police Forces, and other senior officials.
Addressing the meeting, Shah said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government is committed to establishing lasting peace in Jammu and Kashmir and eliminating terrorism. Reiterating the government’s zero-tolerance policy, he said sustained and coordinated efforts have significantly weakened the terror ecosystem in the region.
The Home Minister appreciated the role of security agencies in strengthening the overall security scenario in Jammu and Kashmir. He stressed that Counter Terror (CT) operations targeting terrorist infrastructure and terror financing must continue in a mission mode.
Shah directed all security agencies to remain vigilant and work in close coordination to ensure that the gains achieved after the abrogation of Article 370 are maintained. He said the objective of achieving a “terror-free Jammu and Kashmir” should be pursued at the earliest and assured that all necessary resources would be made available to security forces to support this effort.
