Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday congratulated Nitin Nabin on his election as the national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party, saying that in party matters, Nabin is the leader and he himself is only a party worker.
Addressing party workers at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, the Prime Minister described Nitin Nabin as the president of the world’s largest political party and said his responsibility goes beyond managing the organisation to ensuring coordination among all NDA allies.
“When it comes to the party, Nitin Nabin is the boss and I am a party worker. Now Nitin Nabin ji is the president of all of us. His responsibility is not limited to the BJP alone but also includes strengthening coordination among NDA partners,” PM Modi said.
Highlighting the importance of the coming decades, the Prime Minister said the next 25 years would be crucial for building a developed India. He expressed confidence that Nitin Nabin would carry forward the party’s legacy at the beginning of this important phase.
Referring to generational change within the party, PM Modi described Nabin as part of a generation that has witnessed major economic, social and technological transitions. He said the 45-year-old leader has grown up in an era that moved from radio to artificial intelligence, combining youthful energy with long organisational experience.
The Prime Minister said this combination would benefit party workers across the country. He also spoke about the BJP’s electoral performance, noting that the party has broken the trend of governments losing momentum after long periods in power.
Citing recent election victories, PM Modi said the BJP has won with larger margins in several states, including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar, adding that the party’s electoral strike rate is unprecedented.
Describing the BJP as more than just a political organisation, he said it functions as a tradition and a family, where relationships go beyond membership. He added that while presidents change, the party’s ideals and direction remain constant.
PM Modi also recalled the contributions of past leaders, saying the BJP’s journey from its early years to its current position was shaped under the leadership of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, L K Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi, and later strengthened by successive party presidents.
Earlier in the day, Nitin Nabin formally took charge as BJP national president during an organisational event at the party headquarters. The ceremony was attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, outgoing BJP national president J P Nadda, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, senior party leaders and Chief Ministers from BJP-ruled states.
A five-time member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly, Nabin has also served as a Cabinet Minister in the Bihar government. He is widely regarded for his strong organisational skills and administrative experience.
Born on May 23, 1980, in Ranchi, Jharkhand, Nabin is the son of late Nabin Kishore Prasad Sinha, a senior BJP leader and a four-time MLA from Patna West.
He entered electoral politics at a young age and was first elected to the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 2006 from the Patna West Assembly constituency. Since 2010, he has been consecutively elected from the Bankipur Assembly constituency, winning elections in 2010, 2015, 2020, and 2025.
During his tenure in the Bihar government, Nabin handled key portfolios, including Road Construction, Urban Development and Housing, and Law.
In addition to his legislative role, he has been actively involved in party organisation, holding important leadership positions at both the national and state levels. He has also been entrusted with significant organisational responsibilities in states such as Sikkim and Chhattisgarh.
