Jaishankar meets Luxembourg PM Luc Frieden, discusses finance, technology cooperation

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday met Luxembourg Prime Minister Luc Frieden, with discussions focusing on expanding bilateral cooperation across key sectors including financial services, investments, technology and innovation.

In a post on X, Jaishankar said he conveyed warm greetings from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and thanked Luxembourg for its support towards stronger India–European Union relations.

“Pleased to meet Prime Minister @LucFrieden of Luxembourg this morning. Conveyed warm greetings of PM @narendramodi. Discussed our growing cooperation in financial services, investments, technology & innovation. Thank him for his support for stronger India–EU ties,” Jaishankar wrote.

The Luxembourg engagement followed a series of meetings in France earlier during the visit. On Monday, Jaishankar met Fatih Birol, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency, in Paris, where discussions focused on global energy issues including oil markets, nuclear power and critical minerals.

Jaishankar said he appreciated Birol’s assessment of the global energy landscape and his support for India’s growth and development. Birol, in a separate post, described the meeting as “warm and productive” and said the talks also covered India’s strong commitment to becoming a full member of the IEA.

During his Paris visit, the External Affairs Minister also interacted with participants of the French–Indian Young Talents Programme organised by the Chambre de Commerce et d’Industrie Franco-Indienne, where discussions centred on global transformations and the importance of India–France collaboration.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Jaishankar is scheduled to meet French leadership, including Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, during his visit to France.

The meetings form part of Jaishankar’s six-day official visit to France and Luxembourg. In Luxembourg, his engagements are focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors, including interactions with members of the Indian community.

India and Luxembourg share long-standing diplomatic relations, established in 1948, marked by cooperation at both bilateral and multilateral levels. Luxembourg opened its embassy in New Delhi in 2002 and also maintains honorary consuls in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Bengaluru.
