The Indian Air Force marked the successful completion of training of its Special Forces operatives with a Maroon Beret Ceremonial Parade at the Garud Regimental Training Centre (GRTC), Air Force Station Chandinagar, on Saturday.

The parade was reviewed by the Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Operations – Air Defence), who attended the event as the Chief Guest. He was received by the Commandant of GRTC, who briefed him on the various aspects of the demanding training undergone by the trainees.

Addressing the newly trained commandos, the Chief Guest congratulated them on their successful passing out and highlighted the importance of rigorous training and continuous skill upgradation to meet the challenges of an evolving security environment. He presented the Maroon Beret, Garud Proficiency Badge and Special Forces Tabs to the successful trainees, and also awarded trophies to outstanding performers.

As part of the ceremony, the ‘Garuds’ showcased a range of advanced combat skills, including combat firing, hostage rescue, firing drills, assault with explosives, obstacle crossing, wall climbing, slithering, rappelling and military martial arts, reflecting the intensity and breadth of their training.

The Maroon Beret Ceremonial Parade marked the culmination of an extremely demanding training schedule and the transformation of the trainees into fully qualified Special Forces operators, ready to join the elite Garud force.

The induction of the newly trained commandos is expected to further strengthen the Indian Air Force’s Special Forces capabilities, particularly in light of the expanding role of Garud units in complex and newly defined special missions.
