The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) on Thursday unveiled a new logo and mascot as part of efforts to modernise its institutional identity and improve public outreach.
The launch marks a step towards reinforcing the role of official statistics in policy formulation and nation-building, while promoting data-driven governance and transparency.
According to the Ministry, the new logo reflects the theme “Data for Development” and highlights the importance of statistics in India’s economic and social progress. The design incorporates the Ashoka Chakra to symbolise truth, transparency and good governance, while the Rupee symbol at the centre underlines the role of statistical data in economic planning and policymaking.
The logo also features numerical elements representing modern data systems and statistical science, along with an upward growth bar to indicate progress supported by reliable data. The colour palette – saffron, white, green and deep blue – draws from India’s national colours and signifies growth, sustainability, stability and knowledge.
Alongside the logo, MoSPI introduced its new mascot, “सांख्यिकी”, aimed at making statistics more accessible and relatable to the general public. The mascot has been designed as a citizen-centric character to simplify complex statistical concepts through visual and easy-to-understand communication.
The Ministry said the mascot will serve as MoSPI’s public-facing identity and will be used across national sample surveys, awareness campaigns, educational initiatives, digital platforms and public events. The initiative is intended to encourage greater public participation in National Statistical Office (NSO) surveys and enhance trust in official statistics through consistent and recognisable engagement tools.
MoSPI said that the new logo and mascot align with its broader objective of strengthening transparency, accuracy and public confidence in India’s statistical system.
