Amit Shah | Padma Awards | Karmayogis

Padma Awards reflect new tradition of honouring ‘Selfless Karmayogis’, says Amit Shah

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Monday congratulated the individuals selected for Padma Awards from various states and said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a new tradition has emerged of recognising “selfless karmayogis” who contribute quietly to nation-building.

Shah said the Padma honours celebrate those who live among society and make meaningful contributions across sectors, bringing transformation to lives through sustained work in social service, education, literature and art.

He added that the work of those honoured would inspire future generations and demonstrate that by conscientiously fulfilling social responsibilities, effective contribution to nation-building can be achieved.

In a series of posts highlighting awardees from different states, the Home Minister praised the contributions of recipients from Gujarat, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Assam.

Speaking about the awardees from Gujarat, Shah said it was a matter of pride that several distinguished personalities had been selected for the Padma Shri for their contributions in social service, education, literature and art, noting that their efforts had changed many lives.

Commenting on West Bengal, he said the state’s legacy as a cradle of art, culture, knowledge and service was reflected in this year’s honours, with several awardees recognised in art, literature, education and medicine. He said the recognition highlighted Bengal’s enduring impact on India’s cultural and intellectual discourse.

For Uttar Pradesh, the Home Minister noted awardees from medicine, art, engineering, archaeology, literature, education, sports and agriculture, saying their work demonstrated how social responsibilities and nation-building could go hand in hand.

On Kerala, Shah said the state’s pride was reflected through awardees receiving the Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri in public affairs, literature, education, art, social work, science and engineering. He said their exemplary contributions would inspire others.

Regarding Karnataka, he said eight personalities had been honoured for their contributions in art, social work, literature, education, science, engineering, medicine and industry, and that their dedication and patriotism would serve as a benchmark for new changemakers.

For Tamil Nadu, Shah said distinguished individuals in health, social work, medicine, science and engineering had been honoured with the Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri, adding that the “People’s Padma” had become a platform to celebrate societal role models. He also highlighted additional Padma Shri awardees from the state in fields such as art, civil service, literature and education.

On Maharashtra, Shah noted that the state had long been home to stalwarts from art, literature, music, sports and industry. He said it was a matter of joy that awardees included recipients of the Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri across diverse fields.

Shah said the continued contributions of awardees from across the country reflected the “People’s Padma” character of the award, transformed under the PM Modi government to recognise grassroots contributors alongside widely known public figures.
