Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday expressed grief over the loss of lives in a fire mishap in Anandapur, West Bengal, and announced ex-gratia assistance from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the victims.
In a message posted on social media platform X, the Prime Minister termed the incident “very tragic and saddening” and conveyed his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. He also wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the incident.
The Prime Minister announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh from PMNRF to the next of kin of each deceased, while those injured will be provided ₹50,000 as financial assistance.
Details about the cause of the fire and the exact number of casualties are awaited, while local authorities have launched relief and rescue operations in the affected area.
