PM Modi expresses grief over loss of Army personnel in Doda road mishap

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday expressed grief over the tragic road accident in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district that claimed lives of 10 Indian Army personnel and left several others injured.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said, “Deeply anguished by the mishap in Doda, in which we have lost our brave army personnel. Their service to the nation will be remembered forever. May the injured recover at the earliest. All possible support is being provided to those affected.”

The accident occurred in the Khanni Top area of Bhaderwah when an Army vehicle, carrying troops for an operational duty, slipped off the road while navigating treacherous terrain amid bad weather conditions. According to the White Knight Corps, the area was experiencing difficult weather, and the presence of snow on the Bhaderwah-Chamba road is believed to have contributed to the mishap.

The Army, along with local administration teams, launched immediate rescue efforts following the accident. The injured were first given on-site medical aid and later airlifted for specialised treatment.

President Droupadi Murmu termed the incident extremely tragic and conveyed her deepest condolences to the bereaved families, while praying for the swift recovery of those injured.

In a post on X, Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured, adding that the nation stands firmly with the Armed Forces and their families in this moment of grief.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also expressed sorrow over the incident and extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased soldiers. He said the injured jawans were being provided the highest level of medical care and prayed for their early recovery.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh described the incident as deeply saddening and said all necessary directions had been issued to ensure the best possible treatment for the injured soldiers. “The nation stands with our Armed Forces and their families in this difficult hour,” he said.

Providing a medical update, Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh said all injured soldiers were evacuated to Command Hospital, Udhampur. He noted that while two soldiers sustained mild injuries, the remaining injured personnel suffered grievous injuries, including multiple fractures, chest trauma and spinal injuries, and are undergoing treatment and surgeries under intensive care.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also expressed grief over the loss of lives. The Chief Minister’s Office said rescue and evacuation operations were carried out swiftly despite challenging terrain and weather conditions.
