PM Modi, German Chancellor Merz meet CEOs to boost bilateral economic ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz met Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) from both countries at the India-Germany CEOs Forum in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, with the aim of further strengthening bilateral economic cooperation.

Addressing a joint press conference after the meeting, Prime Minister Modi said that bilateral trade between India and Germany has reached an all-time high, surpassing the USD 50 billion mark. He noted that more than 2,000 German companies have a long-standing presence in India, reflecting their strong confidence in the country’s growth story and the vast opportunities it offers.

“This confidence was clearly visible this morning at the India-Germany CEOs Forum,” the Prime Minister said.

Highlighting the growing depth of technology collaboration, PM Modi observed that technology cooperation between the two countries has strengthened year after year, with its impact now clearly visible on the ground. He noted that India and Germany share common priorities in the field of renewable energy and announced the decision to establish an India-Germany Centre of Excellence.

“This centre will serve as a shared platform for knowledge exchange, technology development and innovation,” he added.

During the event, several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were also signed between India and Germany in the presence of Prime Minister Modi and Chancellor Merz, further reinforcing the framework for enhanced cooperation.

Earlier, PM Modi held delegation-level talks with Chancellor Merz as part of the latter’s first official visit to India. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral ties, with the two leaders reviewing ongoing cooperation in trade, investment, technology, education, skilling and mobility, and exploring new avenues of collaboration in defence and security, science, innovation, research and sustainable development.
