Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday lauded the contributions of Jain scholar Shrimad Vijayaratna Sunder Surishwarji Maharaj as he addressed the release of the saint’s 500th book via video message. Calling the occasion “sacred,” the Prime Minister paid homage to senior Jain Acharyas and saints present at the ceremony and congratulated the Urja Mahotsav Committee.
In his remarks, the Prime Minister described Maharaj’s literary journey as a “vast ocean containing countless gems of thought,” adding that his works present simple and spiritual solutions to contemporary challenges. He highlighted Maharaj’s blend of “restraint, simplicity and clarity,” noting that his writing carries “depth of experience,” his speech “compassion,” and even his silence offers “guidance.”
Modi praised the theme of the latest book, “Premnu Vishva, Vishvano Prem,” saying it was especially relevant at a time when the world faces division and conflict. “This is not just a book but a mantra,” he said, asserting that its message of love, harmony and peace is urgently needed today.
The Prime Minister also drew attention to the Jain principle of “Parasparopagraho Jivanam”—the belief that all life is interconnected—stating that such a worldview encourages society to look beyond individual aspirations and think collectively about national and humanitarian goals.
Recalling the Navkar Mantra Day, where all four Jain sects came together, Modi reiterated the nine resolutions he had outlined earlier: saving water, planting a tree in the name of one’s mother, keeping the country clean, promoting local products, embracing Bharat Darshan, adopting natural farming, following a healthy lifestyle, incorporating yoga and sports into daily life, and committing to helping the poor.
PM Modi also underscored the role of youth in nation-building, stating that India is among the youngest countries in the world. “The youth are building a developed India while strengthening cultural roots,” he said, adding that guidance from saints like Maharaj supports this transformation.
Concluding his address, the Prime Minister conveyed best wishes for the 500th publication and expressed confidence that Maharaj’s thoughts would continue to contribute to India’s “intellectual, moral and human journey.”
