PM Modi, other leaders extend birthday greetings to Murli Manohar Joshi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday extended birthday greetings to former Union Minister and veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Murli Manohar Joshi.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said, “Birthday greetings to Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi Ji, a respected statesman, towering intellectual and steadfast nationalist. His lifelong commitment to service, especially education, culture and popularising India’s civilisational values has enriched public life immeasurably. May he be blessed with a long and healthy life.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah joined in extending birthday greetings, underlining Joshi’s role in expanding the party’s organisational base and inspiring the youth towards value-based Indian education. “Heartfelt birthday wishes to the senior BJP leader, the esteemed Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi Ji. Dr. Joshi Ji played a significant role in expanding the organization and inspiring the youth towards value-based Indian education. As a Union Minister, he undertook inspirational work towards ensuring access to free education for every section of society. I pray to God for his excellent health and long life,” Shah said.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also conveyed his wishes, highlighting Joshi’s contribution to strengthening BJP. “Warm birthday greetings to senior BJP leader Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi Ji. A respected statesman and scholar, his lifelong service to the nation and role in strengthening the party have left a lasting impact. His vision and experience continue to inspire millions of karyakartas. I pray for his good health and long life,” he said.

Joshi, who turned 91 on Monday, was a founding member of BJP, he served as the party president from 1991 to 1993.

During his long public career, Joshi played a key role in shaping India’s approach to the World Trade Organization and the patents regime. As Union Minister for Human Resource Development and later for Science and Technology, he led several major initiatives in education and scientific research. His tenure saw reforms such as the promotion of free education for girls and welfare programmes aimed at empowering women and minority communities.
