PM Modi to mark a decade of Startup India on National Startup Day on January 16

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will take part in a programme on January 16 to mark ten years of the Startup India initiative and interact with members of India’s startup ecosystem, Prime Minister’s Office said in a press release.

The event will be held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi at 1 pm, where selected startup founders are expected to share insights from their entrepreneurial journeys. The Prime Minister will also address the gathering.

Startup India was launched by PM Modi on January 16, 2016 as a flagship initiative to foster innovation, entrepreneurship and investment-led growth, with the aim of making India a hub of job creators rather than job seekers.

According to PMO, the initiative has played a key role in strengthening institutional support, improving access to capital and mentorship, and building an enabling regulatory environment for startups. India has seen rapid expansion of its startup ecosystem over the past decade, with over two lakh recognised startups across sectors and regions.

PMO noted that the sector has become a significant driver of employment generation and innovation-led economic growth, contributing to stronger domestic value chains and emerging technology-led solutions in diverse fields.
