Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Punjab on February 1 to mark the 649th birth anniversary of Sant Guru Ravidas. During the visit, the Adampur airport will be renamed Sri Guru Ravidas Ji Airport, Adampur.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, PM Modi is scheduled to reach Adampur airport around 3.45 pm, where he will unveil the new name of the facility. The renaming is being undertaken in honour of Sant Guru Ravidas, a revered saint and social reformer whose teachings emphasised equality, compassion and human dignity.
The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the terminal building at Halwara airport in Ludhiana district. The terminal is expected to serve Ludhiana and its surrounding industrial and agricultural regions and act as a new civil aviation gateway for the state. Halwara is also home to an Indian Air Force station.
The earlier airport at Ludhiana had a short runway that could handle only small aircraft. To improve connectivity, a new civil enclave has been developed at Halwara with a longer runway capable of accommodating A320-type aircraft.
The terminal building incorporates several energy-efficient and environment-friendly features, including LED lighting, insulated roofing, rainwater harvesting systems, sewage and water treatment plants, and the use of recycled water for landscaping. Its architectural design reflects Punjab’s cultural heritage.
