Prime Minister highlights Somnath Temple as symbol of India’s Cultural Consciousness

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday shared an article written by Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, underscoring the Somnath Temple as a powerful symbol of India’s eternal cultural consciousness and national pride.

In a post on social media platform X, the Prime Minister said that the transformation witnessed over the past 11 years — from the revival of Somnath Temple to the construction of the Ram Janmabhoomi — reflects the emergence of a confident India that takes pride in its cultural identity.

“The Somnath Temple is a symbol of India’s eternal cultural consciousness. The transformation seen over the past 11 years, from Somnath to the Ram Janmabhoomi, is proof that India has become a confident nation that proudly embraces its cultural identity,” the Prime Minister said while sharing the article.

In his post, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia described Somnath not merely as a temple but as a reflection of the nation’s collective consciousness. He noted that despite facing repeated attacks by invaders, Somnath rose time and again, standing as a testament to India’s resilience and civilisational strength.

The Union Minister also referred to the historical contribution of the Scindia dynasty, recalling that in 1785, his ancestor Maharaja Mahadji Scindia defeated Mohammad Shah Abdali in Lahore and brought back the silver gates of Somnath to India, an act he described as a response to centuries of humiliation.

Scindia further stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Somnath and India’s broader cultural heritage have received renewed respect, recognition, and a strong voice of national self-respect.
