Sports Ministry calls on NSFs to establish International Relations, Make in India committees

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) has directed all recognised National Sports Federations (NSFs) to establish dedicated committees on International Relations and Make in India in Sports within their organisations.

To strengthen India’s global engagement in sports, the International Relations Committee will oversee interactions with relevant International Federations (IFs) and Continental Federations (CFs), including updates related to competition rules, governance matters, elections and athlete-focused programmes.

The committee will also formulate a medium-term international cooperation plan encompassing bilateral and multilateral memoranda of understanding (MoUs), joint training camps, exchange programmes, knowledge-sharing initiatives and opportunities to host international sporting events in India.

It will ensure that all international activities adhere to the policies of the Government of India, the Olympic Charter and IF statutes, while complying with good governance norms, anti-doping regulations and athlete protection guidelines.

The committee aims to enhance collaboration with partner national federations and leading international sports research and academic institutions to ensure high-quality training opportunities and sports science support for Indian athletes.

It will liaise with international federations and relevant organisations to ensure timely participation in bidding procedures. In addition, all proposals to host international events in India will be shared with the Ministry in advance for review and, where required, prior consultation or approval in line with existing guidelines.

The Make in India in Sports Committee will engage with Indian manufacturers, start-ups, research institutions and testing and standardisation bodies to support product development, conduct trials and obtain certification in the relevant sport, thereby promoting the domestic sports manufacturing ecosystem under the Make in India initiative.

The committee will also prepare periodic reports on the adoption of indigenous solutions, outlining progress, challenges and recommendations for NSFs, with a particular focus on contributions to Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat.

The International Relations Committee will comprise senior federation members, former international athletes, coaches and subject matter experts with demonstrated experience in global sports administration and diplomacy. Details of the committee, including its composition and terms of reference, may be shared with the Ministry within 30 days of the issuance of the advisory.

The Make in India in Sports Committee will include senior federation members, technical experts, former international athletes and at least one member with expertise in sports equipment, technology, manufacturing or standards. Details regarding the committee, including its composition, may be provided to the Ministry within 60 days of the issuance of the advisory.
