Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath meets Prime Minister Modi in Delhi

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.

The meeting was confirmed by the Prime Minister’s Office, which shared photographs on X through the official handle of the Prime Minister’s Office, stating that the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh had called on the Prime Minister.

Earlier in the day, Adityanath paid tribute to former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and former Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh on his birth anniversary, recalling his role in the state’s development and his association with the Ram Janmabhoomi movement.

Addressing an event in Lucknow, the Chief Minister said that Kalyan Singh’s tenure would be remembered for development-oriented governance and for taking forward what he described as a nationalist mission. He noted that Singh relinquished his post as Chief Minister during the peak of the Ram Janmabhoomi movement, stating that he did so without hesitation while respecting the sentiments of devotees of Lord Ram.

In a post on X, Adityanath described Kalyan Singh as a steadfast warrior of the Ram Temple movement and credited him with giving momentum to Uttar Pradesh’s development through people-centric policies and firm administrative resolve.

Kalyan Singh passed away on August 21, 2021, at the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences in Lucknow due to sepsis and multi-organ failure. He served as Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister twice—between June 1991 and December 1992, and from September 1997 to November 1999—and later as Governor of Rajasthan from 2014 to 2019. He also held several organisational roles within the Bharatiya Janata Party at both state and national levels.

Singh was the Chief Minister when the Babri Masjid was demolished in December 1992. He resigned from office hours after the incident, following which the Congress-led Union government dismissed the Uttar Pradesh government the same day. Singh later faced legal proceedings related to the episode.
