Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan on Monday attended the inauguration of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) Republic Day Camp 2026 at the DGNCC Camp in New Delhi, lauding the organisation’s enduring contribution to nation-building and youth development.
Addressing cadets as the Chief Guest, the Vice-President extended New Year greetings and noted that in its 78th year, the NCC has evolved into the world’s largest uniformed youth organisation, committed to nurturing disciplined, responsible and patriotic citizens. He described the Republic Day Camp as a powerful reflection of India’s faith in its youth and its collective resolve to build a strong and united nation.
Highlighting the NCC motto of “Unity and Discipline,” Radhakrishnan said the organisation continues to shape confident and values-driven young citizens who will form the backbone of a developed India. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat @2047, he said the journey towards a developed nation depends on building an Aatmanirbhar Bharat powered by skilled, disciplined and service-oriented youth, a mission in which the NCC plays a crucial role.
Recalling the NCC’s contribution during Operation Sindoor, the Vice-President said nearly 72,000 cadets volunteered for civil defence duties, demonstrating courage, commitment and readiness to serve the nation in times of need.
He said the NCC Republic Day Camp embodies the constitutional values of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity, as cadets from different States and Union Territories live and train together, reflecting India’s unity in diversity. He also praised NCC cadets for their achievements in adventure activities, international youth exchange programmes, environmental initiatives and disaster relief operations, including their commendable service during the Wayanad floods in Kerala.
Welcoming the modernisation of NCC training, including the introduction of cyber and drone training and the establishment of a Remote Pilot Training Academy, the Vice-President said such initiatives would equip youth to meet emerging technological and security challenges. He also acknowledged the dedication of NCC officers, instructors and staff in shaping young minds and strengthening the nation’s character.
Earlier, the Vice-President inspected a Guard of Honour presented by NCC cadets and visited the NCC Hall of Fame, where he was briefed on the organisation’s legacy and evolution. He also visited exhibition stalls showcasing initiatives such as the YUVA Aapda Mitra Scheme and drone training, appreciating the NCC’s efforts in disaster preparedness and adoption of new technologies. Later, he witnessed a cultural programme presented by the cadets and interacted with them, commending their discipline, enthusiasm and spirit of national pride.
The event was attended by Director General NCC Lt Gen Virendra Vats, senior officials, instructors and cadets participating in the Republic Day Camp from across the country.
