The Union Cabinet on Tuesday held its first meeting at the newly inaugurated Prime Minister’s Office complex, ‘Seva Teerth’, under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, describing the occasion as a symbolic milestone in India’s development journey.
The meeting was presented as a reflection of what the government termed the “reconstruction of New India.” ‘Seva Teerth’, built at the site of temporary British-era barracks, has been positioned as a symbol of transformation – replacing colonial-era infrastructure with a modern governance hub rooted in Indian values.
In a resolution adopted at the meeting, the Cabinet reiterated that every decision taken at ‘Seva Teerth’ would be guided by a spirit of service to 1.4 billion citizens and aligned with the broader goal of nation-building. The government described the complex not merely as a workplace, but as a “pilgrimage of service,” combining duty, dedication and public welfare.
The Cabinet emphasized that governance from the new premises would be anchored in constitutional values, including dignity, equality and justice for all citizens. It affirmed that ‘Seva Teerth’ would serve as a centre for empowerment rather than a display of authority, guided by the principle of “Nagrik Devo Bhava” – treating citizens as paramount.
Highlighting achievements over the past decade, the government said more than 25 crore people had been lifted out of poverty and cited flagship initiatives such as Ayushman Bharat, the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, the Swachh Bharat Mission, the Jal Jeevan Mission and large-scale housing schemes as examples of citizen-centric governance. It noted that nearly 80 crore people benefited from food security measures, over 12 crore toilets were constructed under Swachh Bharat, and millions of rural households received access to drinking water and housing.
The Cabinet also pointed to structural reforms including the Goods and Services Tax (GST), Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), Digital India and faceless tax assessments as measures that have improved transparency and efficiency in governance. These reforms, it said, have strengthened India’s position among the world’s leading economies.
Reaffirming its commitment to the ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ vision, the Cabinet resolved to accelerate reforms and work toward positioning India among the world’s top three economies in the near future. It stressed that decisions taken at ‘Seva Teerth’ would be driven by prudent resource use, technological efficiency and accountability to citizens.
Describing the new complex as a symbol of a transformed work culture, the government said every official and every decision emerging from ‘Seva Teerth’ would remain focused on simplifying the lives of the last person in the country.
With the inaugural meeting, the Cabinet projected ‘Seva Teerth’ as a model of sensitive, transparent and citizen-centric governance, underscoring its resolve to build a prosperous, self-reliant and developed India by 2047.
