Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman arrived in Norway on Monday on a two-day official visit aimed at strengthening economic and financial cooperation between India and Norway.
Upon arrival at Oslo Airport, the Finance Minister was received by Gloria Gangte, Ambassador of India to Norway, according to a post by the Ministry of Finance on X.
During her visit, Sitharaman is scheduled to call on Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and hold bilateral meetings with Norway’s Finance Minister Jens Stoltenberg and Minister for Trade and Industry Cecilie Myrseth. The discussions will focus on enhancing cooperation in finance, trade and investment.
In addition, Sitharaman will hold a roundtable discussion with Norwegian CEOs and investors to explore opportunities for strengthening business and investment ties. She will also engage with members of the Indian diaspora during a community interaction in Oslo.
The Norway visit follows the Finance Minister’s recent trip to Munich, Germany, where she attended the Munich Security Conference 2026. At the conference, Sitharaman spoke at the town hall titled ‘Degrees of Instability: Climate Security in a Warming World’, highlighting India’s growing financial commitment to climate action.
She said India has significantly increased its expenditure on climate-related initiatives, with spending rising from about 3.7 per cent of GDP six years ago to nearly 5.6 per cent at present. Sitharaman emphasised that India is proactively investing its own resources to meet environmental goals, rather than relying solely on international assistance.
During her visit to Munich, the Finance Minister also held meetings with several global leaders, including Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank.
