Greek Defence Minister holds talks on security, strategic issues with EAM Jaishankar

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday held discussions with Nikos Dendias, Greece’s Minister of National Defense, focusing on a range of strategic and security-related issues.

Dendias is on an official visit to India at the invitation of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

In a post on X, Jaishankar said he was pleased to welcome the Greek minister and noted that the two sides had an in-depth exchange on strategic and security matters, while also appreciating Dendias’ perspectives and assessments.

Dendias, in his own post, said he was honoured to be invited to Jaishankar’s residence in New Delhi during his official visit. He described the interaction as cordial and said the discussions covered regional and international developments.

Earlier, on February 6, Dendias had said that during his India visit, he would hold meetings with both Rajnath Singh and Jaishankar. He also said he would participate in a discussion at the India–EU Forum on international developments and security issues, and engage with stakeholders in Bengaluru to explore cooperation between the Greek defence industry ecosystem and its Indian counterpart.

The visit comes a few weeks after India signed a free trade agreement with the European Union.

Referring to recent trade agreements, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said India is concluding future-ready trade deals with multiple partners and that these agreements are receiving global recognition.

Replying to the motion of thanks on the President’s Address in the Rajya Sabha, the Prime Minister said India has emerged as a trusted partner for many countries and is contributing to global welfare.

He said that the trade agreement with the European Union and the recent deal with the United States have boosted global confidence, adding that these agreements signal both stability and momentum in the international economic environment.
