Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Gujarat on Saturday and held a public roadshow in Sanand ahead of the inauguration of a major semiconductor manufacturing facility.
The Prime Minister reached Ahmedabad airport at around 3:40 pm and proceeded to the Sanand GIDC area, where large crowds gathered along the designated route to greet him. Residents lined the streets, waving as the motorcade passed.
Security arrangements were in place throughout the route, with traffic management measures implemented to ensure smooth movement for both participants and the public.
Following the roadshow, the Prime Minister is scheduled to inaugurate the Semiconductor Assembly, Test, Marking and Packaging (ATMP) facility developed by Micron Semiconductor Technology India Private Limited.
According to officials, the facility has been established with an investment of Rs 22,516 crore and is expected to strengthen India’s position in the semiconductor value chain. The project was the first to receive approval under the India Semiconductor Mission, with groundwork beginning in September 2023.
The plant will convert advanced semiconductor wafers into finished memory and storage products, including dynamic random-access memory (DRAM), NAND flash products and solid-state drives. These components are widely used in data centres, consumer electronics and artificial intelligence systems.
Once fully operational, the facility will feature approximately 5,00,000 square feet of cleanroom space, making it one of the largest of its kind globally. Officials said the plant is currently employing around 2,000 people, with direct employment expected to increase to about 5,000 as operations expand.
Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw and senior Micron executives are present at the inauguration event. The Prime Minister is expected to address the gathering and outline the facility’s significance for India’s technology and manufacturing ambitions.
