The Centre has released ₹500 crore for preparations for the Haridwar Kumbh 2027, with Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the financial support aimed at ensuring the smooth and grand conduct of the mega religious event.

“Under the guidance of the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji, all preparations related to the Kumbh Mela to be held in Haridwar are being carried out at a war footing. In this regard, full cooperation is also being provided by the Central Government to the works being done by the State Government. In the same sequence, the Central Government has released a sum of ₹500 crore for the Kumbh,” Dhami said in a post on X on Tuesday.

On Monday, Dhami thanked the Prime Minister on behalf of the people of Uttarakhand for approving the funds.

“On the approval of ₹500 crore funding by the Government of India for the successful and grand organization of the Haridwar Kumbh Mela 2027, heartfelt thanks on behalf of the divine people of Uttarakhand to the Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji,” said Dhami.

“Under the visionary leadership of the Honorable Prime Minister Ji, the double-engine government is committed to the preservation and promotion of the faith, culture, and spiritual heritage of Devbhoomi. With this funding, new momentum will be imparted to works related to strengthening infrastructure, traffic management, drinking water, sanitation, security, and facilities for devotees, in order to bestow a divine, grand, and well-organized form upon the Kumbh Mela,” he added.

Meanwhile, Dhami met Union Jal Shakti Minister C. R. Patil in New Delhi on Monday to review preparations for the Kumbh and discuss projects under the Namami Gange programme.

During the meeting, Dhami also sought early approval for projects worth ₹408.82 crore under the National Mission for Clean Ganga to ensure the cleanliness, purity and uninterrupted flow of the Ganga during the festival. He further requested approval for flood protection proposals worth ₹253 crore, additional funds under the Jal Jeevan Mission, and the expansion of the Iqbalpur canal system as well as the Kankhal and Jagjitpur canals.

The Chief Minister said that the Kumbh Mela is not merely a religious event, but a world-renowned grand festival that embodies India’s eternal culture, spiritual heritage, and social harmony. According to the CM Office Uttarakhand, “The funds approved by the Central Government will play a crucial role in giving the Kumbh Mela 2027 a divine, grand, and well-organized form. This will accelerate efforts related to strengthening infrastructure, traffic management, drinking water, sanitation, security arrangements, and facilities for devotees.”

The Central Government’s support in various development projects, including the Char Dham project, all-weather roads, and the expansion of rail and air connectivity, has proven to be a major pillar of strength for the state. This assistance will further bolster the state government’s resolve for the successful organization of Kumbh Mela 2027.
