India, Sweden strengthen AI cooperation through new technology corridor

India and Sweden have taken a step forward in strengthening bilateral cooperation in artificial intelligence and digital technologies with the signing of a Statement of Intent between the IndiaAI Mission and Business Sweden.

The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the India AI Impact Summit 2026 and aims to promote collaboration in the development, application and deployment of artificial intelligence solutions, while also encouraging trade and investment between the two countries.

As part of the partnership, India and Sweden will jointly establish the Sweden–India Technology and Artificial Intelligence Corridor, or SITAC. The initiative will serve as a structured platform to connect government agencies, industry stakeholders, startups and academic institutions from both countries.

The cooperation framework focuses on delivering real-world industrial and societal outcomes through artificial intelligence, while ensuring responsible and scalable innovation. It builds on the long-standing partnership between India and Sweden and reflects shared priorities in leveraging AI for economic growth, innovation and sustainable development, while addressing emerging risks.

Speaking on the collaboration, IndiaAI Mission Chief Operating Officer Kavita Bhatia said the partnership positions both countries as co-creators of a value-based and trusted AI ecosystem, combining complementary strengths and shared democratic values.

Sweden’s Trade and Invest Commissioner to India, Sofia Högman, said the Statement of Intent translates a shared strategic vision into tangible outcomes. She added that SITAC would help connect the AI and digital technology ecosystems of both nations and create new business opportunities.

Under the SITAC framework, the two sides will undertake a range of initiatives, including organising conferences and thematic workshops, facilitating exchanges between AI ecosystems, conducting field visits to innovation hubs, and promoting engagement among companies, investors, researchers and policymakers. The programme will also focus on identifying opportunities for joint innovation platforms and investment corridors, and on deploying AI solutions across priority sectors.

The partnership aligns the IndiaAI Mission’s objective of building a comprehensive national AI ecosystem through access to compute, data and talent with Sweden’s strengths in industrial innovation, advanced research and responsible AI implementation. The collaboration is expected to support enterprises, startups and research institutions in both countries in developing inclusive and scalable AI solutions.
