The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a cash reward of ₹7.5 crore for the Indian Under-19 cricket team following their title-winning performance at the 2026 Under-19 World Cup.
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia said the decision reflects the board’s pride in the team’s unbeaten run and emphatic victory over England in the final. Speaking to ANI, Saikia said the entire country and the cricketing fraternity were proud of the young side’s achievement and their consistent performance throughout the tournament.
Earlier, Narendra Modi congratulated the team on their World Cup triumph, praising the players for their skill and composure during the tournament and stating that the victory would inspire young sportspersons across the country.
India defeated England by 100 runs in the final of the ICC Under-19 World Cup, securing their sixth title at the tournament, held in Harare, Zimbabwe.
Batting first, India posted a formidable total of 411 for nine. Vaibhav Suryavanshi led the charge with a 175-run knock off 80 balls, which included 15 fours and 15 sixes. Captain Ayush Mhatre scored 53 off 51 balls, while Abhigyan Kundu added a quick 40 off 31 deliveries.
In reply, England were bowled out well short of the target despite a fighting century by Caleb Falconer, who scored 115 runs.
India’s innings also set a new record for the most sixes in a Youth ODI final, with the team striking 31 sixes, surpassing the previous mark of 23.
The victory adds to India’s Under-19 World Cup titles in 2000, 2008, 2012, 2018, and 2022. England, meanwhile, continue their wait for a second title since their maiden win in 1998.
