India AI Impact Summit 2026 | Ashwini Vaishnaw

India unveils New Delhi Frontier AI Commitments at AI Impact Summit

Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday unveiled the New Delhi Frontier AI Commitments, describing them as a key outcome of the India AI Impact Summit 2026. The framework comprises a set of voluntary commitments adopted by leading global and Indian artificial intelligence companies.

Addressing the gathering, the minister said frontier AI firms and Indian AI companies have come together to adopt a shared commitment aimed at promoting inclusive and responsible AI development.

Vaishnaw outlined two principal focus areas under the initiative. The first relates to advancing real-world AI applications through the use of anonymised and aggregated insights to support evidence-based policymaking in areas such as employment, skills, and workforce planning. He said this approach would enable governments and institutions to better assess emerging job trends and skill requirements while maintaining privacy safeguards.

The second commitment focuses on strengthening multilingual and use-case evaluations to ensure AI systems function effectively across languages and cultural contexts. The minister said this aspect is particularly relevant for countries of the Global South, where linguistic diversity requires context-sensitive AI deployment.

He said the commitments mark a collaborative step towards shaping AI systems that are technologically advanced as well as inclusive and development-oriented.

Following the announcement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined global technology leaders for a group photograph at the summit. Those present included Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet; Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI; Alexandr Wang; and Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic.

The India AI Impact Summit 2026, being held from February 16 to 20 in New Delhi, seeks to leverage artificial intelligence to address global challenges and promote shared growth. The five-day summit is structured around three foundational pillars—People, Planet and Progress—and follows the inauguration of the India AI Impact Expo 2026 at Bharat Mandapam earlier this week.
