Indian Embassy in Tehran issues advisory after Israel–US strikes on Iran

The Indian Embassy in Tehran has advised Indian nationals in Iran to exercise utmost caution and avoid unnecessary movement following a major joint military strike by Israel and the United States.

In an advisory posted on X, the Embassy urged Indian citizens to remain indoors as far as possible, closely monitor developments, and await further guidance. Emergency contact numbers were also issued for assistance.

The advisory came after Israel and the United States launched what has been described as a joint military operation targeting military installations, missile production facilities and strategic locations in Iran. According to media reports, the operation has been codenamed “Operation Roaring Lion.”

Explosions were reported in parts of Tehran, including areas in the south of the capital. Iranian state media confirmed blasts in the city, while local reports indicated that several ministries were among the sites struck. The extent of damage and casualties remains unclear.

Israeli authorities declared a nationwide state of emergency. Hospitals were reportedly moved to protected underground facilities, and air raid sirens were sounded across the country amid warnings of possible retaliatory missile or drone attacks.

Israel, Iran and Iraq have closed their airspace, suspending all flight operations.

The Israeli Defence Forces said the strikes were carried out as a preventive measure to remove perceived threats. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz announced a nationwide special state of emergency under the Civil Defense Law and warned of the possibility of imminent missile and drone attacks targeting Israeli territory.

According to reports cited by the Jerusalem Post, a security source confirmed US involvement in the strikes. US President Donald Trump, in a video message, said American forces had begun “major combat operations” in Iran, stating that the objective was to eliminate what he described as imminent threats to the United States and its allies.

Meanwhile, Iranian media reported disruptions in mobile and internet connectivity in parts of Tehran. Reuters quoted an Iranian official as saying that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had been moved to a secure location.

The developments have heightened fears of a wider regional conflict, particularly as nuclear negotiations between the United States and Iran in Oman have reportedly been disrupted.

Earlier, the Indian Embassy in Jordan also issued an advisory urging Indian nationals and tourists to exercise caution and consider leaving the country before commercial flight operations are affected.

The situation remains fluid, with diplomatic and security developments continuing across the region.
