The Maharashtra government is set to introduce a new statewide recruitment system, with plans to fill more than 70,000 government posts in a phased manner, including around 50,000 positions through the Maharashtra Public Service Commission.
The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, which focused on governance reforms and accelerating administrative changes, with an emphasis on human resource management and transparency in recruitment.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister said that recruitment under the new system would be based on required skills, service entry rules, eligibility criteria and the nature of work. He added that all key departments have been directed to fast-track comprehensive administrative reforms, with priority given to transparent and efficient hiring processes. A decision on amendments to the state’s service recruitment rules is expected to be taken at an upcoming cabinet meeting.
Fadnavis also said that the human resource management model presented by the Maharashtra government at the Chief Ministers’ Conference, held in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was widely appreciated, with other states encouraged to adopt the reform framework. He said the model positions Maharashtra as a reference point for governance reforms across the country.
The Chief Minister further stressed the need for online and digital verification systems to ensure that the recruitment process remains transparent, credible and time-bound. He said a new governance reform model would take shape in the state within the next year, with every department playing a key role in its implementation.
