PM Modi assures ‘Developed and Prosperous’ Bengal in open letter to voters

The West Bengal unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party has begun distributing an open letter written by Prime Minister Narendra Modi among voters ahead of the Assembly elections scheduled later this year.

The letter, issued in Bengali and Hindi, outlines the Prime Minister’s appeal to the electorate and presents the party’s development vision for the state.

In the letter, the Prime Minister alleged that the government led by Mamata Banerjee and the ruling All India Trinamool Congress has attempted to prevent people from receiving the full benefits of centrally sponsored schemes. He asserted that despite what he described as non-cooperation from the state administration, many beneficiaries in West Bengal have gained from these programmes.

The Prime Minister stated that the upcoming elections would shape the future of the next generation in the state. He said that West Bengal has faced deprivation and pledged efforts towards building a “developed and prosperous” state.

Highlighting initiatives launched since 2014 under the National Democratic Alliance government, the Prime Minister said various welfare and development schemes have delivered benefits across sectors.

In the letter, he referred to West Bengal’s historical economic prominence and expressed concern over what he described as economic decline, unemployment among youth and concerns relating to women’s safety.

The Prime Minister also invoked the legacy of prominent personalities from the state, including Swami Vivekananda, Sri Aurobindo, Rabindranath Tagore and Subhas Chandra Bose, stating that the state which once produced such leaders deserves renewed development and stability.

Calling for unity, he urged voters to support change to ensure economic progress and improved livelihoods, asserting that citizens of West Bengal deserve the same development trajectory witnessed in other parts of the country.

The distribution of the open letter forms part of the BJP’s outreach efforts as political activity intensifies in the run-up to the Assembly elections.
