Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday expressed deep sorrow over the demise of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Vungzagin Valte, saying he would be remembered for his outstanding service and lifelong dedication to societal progress.
Valte, 62, the BJP legislator from Thanlon constituency in Manipur’s Churachandpur district, passed away at a private hospital in Gurugram after prolonged medical treatment. He had sustained critical injuries in a mob attack during ethnic violence in the state on May 4, 2023.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister said, “Pu Vungzagin Valte will be remembered for his outstanding service to the people of Manipur. He worked diligently towards bringing a positive difference in society. His interventions in the Assembly were always insightful. Pained by his passing. Condolences to his family, friends and supporters.”
PM Modi described Valte as a leader who “loved serving people” and had dedicated his life to societal progress and well-being, noting that he distinguished himself as an active MLA.
Leaders Pay Tributes
Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla expressed deep grief, calling Valte’s demise an “irreparable loss” to the state and public service. In his condolence message, the Governor said the late MLA would be remembered for his dedication and committed service to society.
Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh also condoled the veteran legislator’s death, describing him as a compassionate and sincere leader devoted to the welfare and holistic development of Manipur.
“I am profoundly saddened and deeply grieved by the untimely demise of Pu Vungzagin Valte,” Singh said in a post on X, adding that Valte’s unwavering commitment to strengthening infrastructure and uplifting communities had earned him widespread respect and affection.
The Manipur BJP also paid tribute, stating that the Prime Minister’s words reflected Valte’s immense contribution to society and public life.
