Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Meerut, Uttar Pradesh today. During the visit, the Prime Minister will flag off the Meerut Metro and the Namo Bharat Train, inaugurate sections of India’s first Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), dedicate the entire 82-km Delhi–Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor to the nation, and commission multiple development projects worth around ₹12,930 crore.
At around 12:30 PM, the Prime Minister will flag off the Meerut Metro and the Namo Bharat Train at the Shatabdi Nagar Namo Bharat Station, after which he will undertake a Metro ride to Meerut South Station. At approximately 1:00 PM, Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate and dedicate the projects to the nation and address a public gathering.
Prime Minister Modi will dedicate the full 82-km Delhi–Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor and inaugurate the remaining sections of India’s first Namo Bharat RRTS, including the 5-km stretch between Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar in Delhi, and the 21-km section between Meerut South and Modipuram in Uttar Pradesh.
Designed for a speed of 180 km per hour, Namo Bharat is India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System and will connect major urban centres such as Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Modinagar and Meerut with Delhi at higher speed. Sarai Kale Khan, the originating station, serves as a major multi-modal hub linking Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, the Delhi Metro’s Pink Line, Veer Haqeeqat Rai ISBT and the Ring Road. The other three stations being commissioned—Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul and Modipuram—are located in Meerut.
The Prime Minister will also inaugurate Meerut Metro services between Meerut South and Modipuram. In a first-of-its-kind initiative in the country, the Namo Bharat RRTS and the Meerut Metro will operate on the same infrastructure. The Meerut Metro will be India’s fastest metro system, with a maximum operational speed of around 120 kmph, covering the entire stretch in just 30 minutes with all scheduled stops.
The seamless integration of the Namo Bharat RRTS and the Meerut Metro will enable high-speed intercity travel and swift intra-city movement, setting a benchmark for integrated urban and regional transit in India. These projects are expected to ease road congestion and significantly reduce vehicular carbon dioxide emissions.
These initiatives will further advance Prime Minister Modi’s vision of transforming urban mobility and delivering seamless, efficient, modern and sustainable public transport systems that enhance the ease of living for citizens.
