President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday witnessed the International Fleet Review (IFR) 2026 at Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, a major maritime event showcasing global naval cooperation. Navies from over 70 countries are participating in the fleet review.
Addressing the gathering, the President said the International Fleet Review reflects unity, trust and mutual respect among nations for maritime traditions. She noted that ships sailing under different flags and sailors from diverse countries together demonstrate the spirit of togetherness, in line with the theme of the event, “United Through Oceans.” She said the collective resolve and commitment of global naval forces can overcome shared challenges.
The President said India’s approach to international relations, including in the maritime domain, is guided by the ethos of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, meaning the world is one family. She stated that global security, sustainable growth and stability are achieved through partnerships, adding that cooperative action among like-minded nations forms the foundation of a stable maritime order.
Referring to India’s maritime vision, the President said the Fleet Review also advances the country’s MAHASAGAR initiative—Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions. She said India believes in shared responsibility for maintaining peace and stability across the oceans.
Highlighting the role of the Indian Navy, President Murmu said it remains vigilant in safeguarding India’s maritime interests while contributing to stability across the wider maritime commons. She said Indian naval units act as credible instruments of deterrence and defence and are often the first responders during humanitarian crises and natural disasters.
The President also appreciated officers and sailors from friendly foreign navies, stating that their discipline, dedication and professional competence form the backbone of collective maritime security. She said their participation in the International Fleet Review has strengthened bonds of trust and reaffirmed the shared commitment to peace, stability and cooperation at sea.
President Murmu expressed confidence that the navies participating in the Fleet Review will work collectively to ensure that oceans continue to serve as gateways for growth, prosperity and the well-being of the global community.
